Land and property records, 1768-1919, include deeds, mortgages, bond, court orders, appraisals, leases and survey maps, principally for the area around Far Rockaway, East Rockaway, and Lawrence, Town of Hempstead, involving Daniel Hewlett, Thomas Hewlett, James A. Hewlett and others, including Whitehead Hewlett, Samuel Hewlett, James Foster, Robert Bogardus, Daniel Mott Samuel R.B. Norton, John L. Norton jr., Nathaniel H. Waring, Increase Pettit, Hewlett Valentine, Samuel Smith and Whitehead Cornell. Estate papers include inventories of the estates of Henry Mott, 1782, Adam Mott, 1790, and Daniel Hewlett, 1819; wills, court records and other papers from the estates of Thomas Hewlett, James A. Hewlett, Mary E. (Sanderson) Hewlett and Anna S. (Hewlett) Hand, 1841-1935. Bills, receipts and accounts, mostly of Thomas Hewlett, for food, supplies, and rental of horses and farmlands; letters to Hewlett or Mrs. Thomas Hewlett concerning shingling, painting and other repairs to the house, 1830's and '40's; letters and accounts of Thomas Hewlett as county wreckmaster, salvaging ships wrecked along Rockaway Beach; tax records and teacher contracts for District 15, Town of Hempstead, 1830's; and records of the town highway commissioners.
